Spurs must exploit their young talent next season

Welcome to e-Spurs Connor!A week on from the heartache of missing out on the Champions League by just 1 point to our bitter rivals Arsenal, we have time to reflect on last season's successes and failures, as well as look forward to the future of the football club. AVB and Daniel Levy are searching vigorously for new additions to the squad following our highest points total in a season and STILL missing out on playing against Europe's elite. Various players, namely David Villa, Leandro Damiao, Christian Eriksen and Joao Moutinho (before he joined cash happy Monaco) are names that have been thrown around to look to strengthen Spurs. These potential signings all obviously have risks, as with any signing, what with adjusting to a different league, the fee paid for the players' services etc. This is where our Tottenham youth stars enter the fray. Spurs have one of the best youth setups on the planet, FACT. Our Under 21s came tantalisingly close to winning the FA Youth Cup at Old Trafford only to miss out to 3 second half goals from Manchester United. When watching the game I was positive the Spurs U21s were a part of Tottenham after leading 2-0 at half time only to lose the game 3-2, typical.  Nonetheless, whilst watching that match I was able to see a glimpse of the future of Spurs and I can tell you, I liked what i saw. It was evident that we hadn't got to the final through blind luck and it was clear that we had some very good players in the youth ranks with the likes of Nabil Bentaleb (a very Dembele-esque player), Jonathan Obika, Grant Hall and Jordan Archer all impressing but to me there was 3 stand-out players Cristian Ceballos, Tom Carroll and Alex Pritchard. These guys are most definitely the future of the football club and I think that they could add something to the team next term. Ceballos arrived at Spurs in July 2011 from Spanish giants Barcelona and shows his Spanish background when he plays bringing superb movement and technique to the U21s and has bamboozled defenders all year with his skill and creativity. Ceballos has been likened to our star man Gareth Bale by Dave Wood of the Daily Mail. I personally think that Ceballos has the potential to be a big star for the club in the future and would bring a sense of energy and enthusiasm. Pritchard and Carroll are similar sort of players who both possess great amounts of technique and passing ability. Carroll was able to show small sparks of what he was capable of last season with 7 appearances in total, he had good spells in the Europa League and would greatly improve the midfield in the future, all of his passes are positive and he is always looking to make something happen, he could well be the answer to a 4-3-3 formation after missing out on Moutinho. Pritchard will be a great player in the future but an injury at Peterborough has halted his progress, coming back from his injury he returned to the U21 side and went back to scoring for fun from midfield and providing assists from outrageous positions. No doubt that he will be considered for the first team and will add diversity to the team and some unpredictability. Exploiting our youth players could enhance the team and wouldn't provide as many risks as purchasing multiple players with no experience playing in England. Iron Man 3 - The Armors and a review

 Spoilers ahead!I loved Iron Man and Iron Man 2 FYI. I did come out of Iron Man 2 wishing they had more of Tony and Peppers relationship instead of them just coming together at the end. Whiplash was a cool character in concept and design but I think the filmmakers initial idea for Whiplash to go more compact and terroristic (See concept art by Ryan Mienerding that was revealed on the new box set with all the marvel movies) at the end of the movie was better than him build a big suit of armor and just have a big set of whips. But it did look cool at least and the suitcase armor was amazing with a cool armor-up process.from the art of Iron Man 2, taken by me, flash spot by my ignorance.So Iron Man 3 had me excited. I grew up watching the Iron Man cartoon so the Mandarin was a pretty familiar villain to me. I never really dug him that much and associate him with MODOK (can't we all agree he's a bad idea?) I don't know why mandarin was green...is that scurvy? I loved the Dark Knight feel that Shane Black's Iron Man script gave to the Mandarin. The Trevor moment made it even better for me and the moment near the end when Killian reveals that he IS the Mandarin is a sweet payout for fans. Also he can breathe fire. But only once for some reason. I hate when that happens to me! oh my.So the other twists were great too. The Maya double cross was great and the moment when Iron Man was hit by a car was confusing and a great moment for my brain to catch up with. The Extremis stuff was cool and the graphics were really excellent. I saw it on Imax 3d and the 3d was okay but it's definitely a trade off as you lose a lot of the detail you get from the digital format. I recommend seeing this movie at a drive in. Mostly for the sound quality you get. My paragraphs share no common theme.A wraparound of the mark 42 for toy design.The Mark 42 was an awesome running gag through the movie. What was shown to us in the trailers to be the ultimate suit of armor was just a messy prototype. When I told my Dad how Tony armors up with the mark 42 he rolled his eyes and I had to remind him it looks awesome so who cares. I think the concept was not a stretch for the Marvel Universe and really added some fun to the movie. Armoring up is my favorite part of the movie Iron Man and this movie had him going in and out of suits about 20 times. Seriously I think it was about that many. The finale had some great moments of him jumping in and out of suits and even just parts of the armor coming off. Concept art by Adi GranovMy only main complaints were Pepper in the finale (I don't know why. It just looked funny and was a weird idea for a newly Extremis'd person to beat the crap out of an experienced guy) and the under-powering of the armors in the finale. Some people say that they were all just prototype units, but I know they just did it to add some conflict and some cool explosions. And along with that they went and designed 35+ suits of armor and only showcased 5-6 of them. After the movie the first thing I did was try and find all the armors. Which was difficult. But I did it. Some dude scanned these in. Some are almost exactly the same as others but all in all I think they are great. I still can't figure out which one he was wearing in the finale when he was fighting on some scaffolding and had small vertical lights on both sides of his arc reactor. The Silver Centurion armor was one of my favorites.the heartbreaker armor-modeled after James Dean.The fight scenes were great. Every one. The fights without the armor or partially with the armor were maybe the best of the bunch too. My wife said, "Yeah right." Speaking of great the little kid was a fun addition and Tony's relationship with him was unexpected and fun. The movie had some great jokes and even some Downton Abbey which I addmittedly have watched. And other stuff happened in this movie. It was mostly good stuff. San Antonio Spurs vs. Memphis Grizzlies

No lead has been safe with the San Antonio Spurs involved in a game so far in the playoffs. That's just what brought them to this 3-0 advantage over the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference Finals, one step away from a sweep.San Antonio has been ahead by 18 points and behind by 18 in the past two games against the Grizzlies, and both have gone into overtime.Needless to say, it's been a strange series, especially considering the Spurs have won the first three games despite extremely different circumstances.Between Tim Duncan's late-game dominance and Zach Randolph's curious inability to build any kind of momentum, it seems as if the Spurs are well on their way to their fifth NBA Finals appearance since 1999.What will it take for the Grizzlies to start their trek down the comeback trail, and what are the odds that San Antonio will record the first conference finals sweep since the New Jersey Nets beat the Detroit Pistons in four games back in 2003?Time: Monday, May 27, 9 p.m. ETWhere: FedExForum, MemphisSeries: San Antonio, 3-0TV: ESPNGame 1 stands out as strange compared to the last two that we've seen between Memphis and San Antonio.The Spurs spent the majority of the game getting work done around the perimeter with their backcourt players. Memphis used its usual inside-outside game, getting solid production from Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.Tim Duncan walked away with six points and 10 rebounds, while Zach Randolph flopped with two points and seven boards (and an astonishing plus/minus of minus-28).From there, Duncan seemed to be jarred awake, but Randolph continued on the same track through the next two games.Duncan averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, four assists, three blocks and a steal over the next two contests, shooting over 50 percent in the process. Even more impressively, in the two overtime periods in Games 2 and 3, he has scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting with three rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.Most of this is coming with Gasol guarding him as Lionel Hollins looks for any way to slow the big man down.It's gotten to the point where San Antonio is shooting so well from the perimeter that Randolph has to go out and hover all over Matt Bonner. He gives Duncan a solid look at the basket on every high pick-and-roll that he's pulling off with Tony Parker or Manu Ginobili.Gasol is playing too high in the post, and Duncan is able to roll just fast enough to find space for layups or to kick it out to the perimeter.Duncan isn't moving like he's a 25-year-old standing next to David Robinson anymore, but he's still producing like he is.Randolph has been an utter disaster over those two games as far as shooting is concerned, averaging 14.5 points on 34 percent shooting while nabbing a ridiculous 16.5 rebounds per game (eight offensive). It seems that he's doing his best to make up for being absolutely overmatched on offense (even when Bonner is guarding him, he's having troubles) by inhaling rebounds.So far, it hasn't been enough for the Grizzlies, mostly because he's not converting a ton of those offensive rebounds into points. Randolph is going to be key in Game 4. The only question is whether he's a key player for the Grizzlies or the Spurs.While Duncan has been an absolute monster late in games, Parker has done a ton of the legwork from start to finish in the first three.From his 18-assist night in Game 2 to his 26 points in Game 3 and his constant ball-hawking throughout, Parker has been incredibly effective, even given his poor shooting night in Game 2.He's making the right passes (as usual), scoring at a relatively efficient clip at 46.4 percent (as usual) and doing his best to protect the ball and work inside the Spurs' offensive system, never going straight into hero ball for more than a possession.So far, Parker is averaging 20.3 points, 10.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals through the first three games of the series.It's pretty safe to say that Parker has been the driving force of the San Antonio offense, completely controlling the pace of the game on his own at times.Projected Starting Lineups:San Antonio Spurs: Tony Parker (PG), Danny Green (SG), Kawhi Leonard (SF), Tim Duncan (PF), Tiago Splitter (C)Memphis Grizzlies: Mike Conley (PG), Tony Allen (SG), Tayshaun Prince (SF), Zach Randolph (PF), Marc Gasol (C)Injury Report SpursNo injuries reported.GrizzliesNo injuries reported.San Antonio Wins If...The offense continues to flow.San Antonio has racked up 77 assists in the first three games of this series (compared to Memphis' 57). Its offense gets into grooves where every single player seems to know what the others are doing three and four steps into the future.San Antonio's had a quarter in which every made shot was assisted, and another when Parker racked up an assist on eight straight field goals.In essence, the Spurs are running a near-perfect offense, save two or three quarters out of 12.Their pick-and-roll is running so smoothly that it seems like the main participants have been running it for over a decade—oh wait, they have.Out of the pick-and-roll, drives to the basket will either finish with a solid look at a layup or a kick out to either corner that moves the ball around the perimeter until the most wide-open shot is found. It turns Memphis' defense into a confused mass of closeouts happening too slowly and guys getting lost, especially late in games.If that continues, look for San Antonio to close out the sweep.Randolph has made steady improvement over the course of the series. The only problem is that his improvement is building upon a 1-of-8 night that killed his team in Game 1.He's ratcheted things up to 6-of-18 in Game 2 and 5-of-14 in Game 3, improving from 12.5 percent from the field in Game 1, all the way up to 35.7 percent in Game 3.Marc Gasol has had a bit of a rough series as well. Of course, it helps that with Randolph playing so poorly, Gasol's troubles pale in comparison. He is shooting just 39 percent in the first three games, averaging 14.3 points.With the three-pointers falling at a similarly poor rate that they did during the regular season (34.6 percent is a slight improvement), the Grizzlies really need both post players making solid contributions.While the offense is a struggle, they are having solid contributions on the rebounding front, combining for 25 boards per game.Memphis really needs to find a way to get those two rolling early and keep them hot, otherwise it could be a disappointing exit after an exciting first two rounds.PredictionSan Antonio proved in Game 3 that a loud, towel-waving crowd in Memphis does nothing to faze its attack.With Duncan in a stellar groove, Parker running the offense as well as he ever has and the peripheral members of the Spurs making sure that everything goes according to plan, the Spurs have become a tough team to hold down.They've come back from a 18-point deficit, frittered away an 18-point lead while still staying confident and worked their way to a blowout all in three games. There's not a situation they haven't succeeded in so far.Memphis' defense is going to have to be stellar to slow down the free-flowing, well-oiled Spurs attack in order to walk away with a win in Game 4.Duncan might need more than a celebratory beer after Monday night's game.San Antonio Spurs 97, Memphis Grizzlies 91

Tony Kanaan Ends Brickyard Heartache With Indy 500 Win

Tony Kanaan had one more lap one anticlimactic last lap under the yellow caution flag to end 12 years of frustration in the Indianapolis 500.

He flipped up his visor to wipe away tears as the crowd roared its approval and then in Victory Lane gave his bride of two months a long kiss and poured the celebratory winner's milk over his head.

Kanaan is Indy's hard luck loser no more. He is its champion at last fittingly with a dose of good luck for a change.

I have to say the last lap was the longest lap of my life Kanaan said. It was one of Indy's most popular victories.

The losers were pleased with the outcome evidenced by a scene similar to rivals lining up to congratulate Dale Earnhardt when he finally won the Daytona 500 on his 20th try. Dario Franchitti whose crash brought out the race ending caution stood grinning by his crumpled car two thumbs up as Kanaan passed under yellow.

When I saw who was leading it cheered me up a little bit said Franchitti last year's winner. He's a very very deserving winner.

The fans thought so too standing on their feet screaming TK TK TK as he and team owner Jimmy Vasser went by during the traditional victory lap. It felt magical to Kanaan like he had given the crowd at Indianapolis Motor Speedway a gift.

It means a lot to me because so many people I could feel that they wanted me to win and it's such a selfish thing to do because what are they getting from it Kanaan said. I'm the one who gets the trophy. I believed that this win was more for people out there than for me.

I wanted it all my life but over the years I was kind of OK with the fact that I may never have the chance to win.

His chance came at the end of a history making race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where Kanaan knew he had to pounce at the green flag for the final restart with three laps to go. He did zipping inside leader Ryan Hunter Reay to roar to the lead where he wanted to be in case another caution came out.

I knew I had to get the lead on the restart because it could be a yellow which happened to me plenty of times here and it did Kanaan said. How funny is life The yellow was my best friend.

Kanaan had his fair share of chances to win at Indy but came up short time and time again. He was leading when the rain came in 2007 only to lose to Franchitti when the race resumed.

In all Kanaan went into Sunday's race with 221 laps led at Indy more than any non winner except Michael Andretti and Rex Mays but his second place finish to Buddy Rice in 2004 was the closest he had come to victory. He had a pair of third place finishes including last year again to Franchitti.

It's wonderful for him said Mario Andretti himself a victim of bad luck at Indy. He's raced here long enough that he deserves it no question.

The win for Kanaan and car owner Vasser was celebrated throughout the paddock. Alex Zanardi who came from Italy to watch the race and gave Kanaan one of his 2012 London Paralympics medals as good luck wept behind the pit wall as Kanaan took the checkered flag.

I tell you I'm starting to think (the medal) really works said Zanardi who lost his legs in a 2001 crash in Germany. It's a dream come true to see Tony win to see Jimmy Vasser win my dear friend. I'm so happy I'm so happy.

It was Vasser who brought Zanardi's medal to Kanaan before the race telling his driver that Zanardi wanted him to rub it for good luck.

I actually cuddled with the thing Kanaan admitted.

Vasser caught in the middle as a driver during the political fighting in open wheel racing only got the chance to run Indy eight times in his career and not during his prime. He had goose bumps on the celebratory lap with Kanaan as the crowd chanted the driver's name.

I never won it as a driver. In fact I couldn't win it as a driver Vasser said so I had to hire the right guy to do it get a baby Borg on my shelf referring to the winner's Borg Warner trophy.

It will be one adorned with Kanaan's likeness and the driver joked he could finally put my big nose on that trophy.

Fellow Brazilian Helio Castroneves like Franchitti shooting for a record tying fourth Indy win was happy for his long time friend.

Finally he's able to win this race. He's so close so many times but the good news is the good old boys are still able to run fast Castroneves said. Carlos Munoz a 21 year old rookie making his first IndyCar start finished second and Hunter Reay was third.

T.K. is such a fan favorite absolutely it's great to see him win it. If anybody is going to win it in the field he's one of the few I'd like to see other than myself Hunter Reay said. We were leading on that last restart I knew I was a sitting duck and I wasn't too bummed about it because I knew we had enough laps to get it going again and have a pass back. Maybe I would be third on the last lap which is where I wanted to be.

Only there was no racing on the last lap. Franchitti brought out the caution seconds after Kanaan passed Hunter Reay for the last of 68 lead changes exactly double last year's record.

On the final lap the leaders came to the finish line all bunched up around Kanaan saluting the IndyCar stalwart who had longed to add the final missing piece to his resume. That was about as slow as anyone had driven all day. The average speed was 187.433 mph another Indy record.

Marco Andretti finished fourth failing to win for the eighth time and Justin Wilson was fifth in the highest finishing Honda on a day that was dominated by Chevrolet. Castroneves was sixth. Pole sitter Ed Carpenter led a race high 37 laps and finished 10th.

For a time it appeared the win would go to AJ Allmendinger who led 23 laps in his Indy debut for Roger Penske.

Fired by Penske from his NASCAR ride last year after failing a NASCAR drug test Penske gave him a second chance with this IndyCar opportunity. Seven years after leaving open wheel racing Allmendinger finally ran The Greatest Spectacle in Racing and was leading when his seat belt came undone forcing him to pit.

It put Allmendinger off the pit cycle and he was forced to stop for gas twice far in advance of the rest of the field. It meant Allmendinger had to drive his way back to the front each time and he finally sputtered out at seventh.

I'll be honest pretty special moment to be leading at Indy he said. My body kind of went numb my mind was racing and I could feel my heart beating really fast and that's a special moment I'll never forget.

A year after 34 lead changes and a frantic finish created what many considered the best Indy ever IndyCar had its hands full trying to top itself.

This one might have done it with the slicing and dicing at the front over and over and over again. The 68 lead changes involved 14 drivers and 28 of the 33 cars were running at the end. With 100 miles to go 25 drivers were on the lead lap.

It was a hell of a race. That's all I can say said Mario Andretti. This is riveting competition that's all I can tell you. It's just amazing. The reliability of the cars is there. The product is there. It's unbelievable racing the best I've seen in years.
