He was the son of the merchant Josef Platte and his wife Karoline. When he was three years old, his family moved to Hildesheim. Before his graduation, the 16-years old left school and took acting classes. Despite his young age, he made his stage debut in 1925 as Shylock in Der Kaufmann von Venedig (The Merchant of Venice) by William Shakespeare at the Freilichtbühne Düsseldorf. He gained more experience during engagements in Bad Harzburg, Hildesheim, Hagen, Wuppertal and at the Residenz Theater Hannover. He spent some time at the Lobe-Theater in Breslau (now Wroclaw), where he also directed several productions himself. In 1927 he came to Berlin, where he set up the cabaret 'Die Katakombe' (the catacomb) together with the political satirist, writer, and actor Werner Finck and the actor and director Hans Deppe. Die Katakombe was banned by the Nazis in 1935. His film debut was the youth drama Revolte im Erziehungshaus/Revolt in the Borstal (Georg Asagaroff, 1929) with Carl Balhaus. It was the start of a cinema career with more than 200 films. He often played roles of servants, postmen and small-time crooks: ordinary, reserved and shy, but loving people. He played minor parts in a range of prestigious films, including F.P.1 antwortet nicht/F.P.1 Doesn't Answer (Karl Hartl, 1932), the cross dressing comedy Viktor und Viktoria/Viktor and Viktoria (Reinhold Schünzel, 1933) featuring Renate Müller, and the Science-fiction film Gold (Karl Hartl, 1934) starring Hans Albers and Brigitte Helm. He also appeared in one of the first Nazi propaganda films, Hitlerjunge Quex/Hitler Youth Quex (Hans Steinhoff, 1933). He was given the title role in Schützenkönig wird der Felix/Bashful Felix (Carl Boese, 1934). Another leading part was his final film role during the Nazi period, the criminologist Bruch in Der Meisterdetektiv/The Master Detective (Ernst Marischka, 1943). Between 1940 and 1944 he was director of the Theater in der Behrenstrasse, and from 1945 to 1947, he headed the Theater an Schiffbauerdamm. As an actor he could play both tragic and comic characters. During the 1950s he showed up in many entertainment films. Urban Meyer Didn't Kill Odin Lloyd

I saw a headline today that read "Urban Meyer Won't Take Blame for Aaron Hernandez's Troubles." Should he be?I understand that a person's behavior is shaped by both biological and environmental factors and some of those factors are people who you surround yourself with. There are also the institutions that you associate yourself with, ones that you represent.In what I am reading and seeing, a lot of media are putting Urban Meyer and the University of Florida on trial in the court of public opinion for the actions of Aaron Hernandez. Why is that? Is it because of a coverup? Is it because Urban Meyer and the University of Florida knew things about Aaron Hernandez or that they hid the severity of such incidents as a 2007 shooting.I cannot begin to express my disgust at all of the university coverups that are coming to light in the last 12 to 18 months. Because of the big business of college football, a lot of things are swept under the rug at the expense of saving face or hiding some hideous truths. Significant crimes should never be covered up.I don't even want to touch the Penn State incident with a ten foot pole. I covered it extensively and at this point, no more should be said.Did Urban Meyer and the University of Florida cover for Aaron Hernandez? Did they hide his criminal and drug activity while he played football there? If so, then I feel like this is a horrible atrocity - putting an amateur athlete on a pedestal, teaching them that they are in fact above the law because of an extraordinary ability to play a sport. Everyone, no matter how quickly they run the 40 or how many guys they can run over, needs to be held accountable for their own actions.I feel that such behaviors are covered across college sports, from Division I on down. Sad but true.Therefore, I cannot hold Urban Meyer and company entirely responsible for Aaron Hernandez. Absolutely not. I feel like this guy was bad before he became a Gator. They might have tried to work with him, mentor him, harness his anger and energy in a more positive way - on the football field.In the end, we are all responsible for our own actions. Aaron Hernandez allegedly killed - many times. Could Urban Meyer and UF have put a stop to him? Would he be behind bars a long time ago? I wonder.Do not blame Urban Meyer. Blame Aaron Hernandez.In the same way we cannot blame one program in particular because I am a firm believer that such coverups occur across the board. If we blame Urban Meyer, we need to blame all universities for all of the coverups that have occurred and for failing to keep in check athletes of all sports who committ wrongdoings.In the end, no one really wins. Let's just stop pointing fingers and place the blame on the guy that (allegedly) did the crime. And then, let's extend thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Odin Lloyd. I feel that no ones saying that enough.

I quit my other crazy Chef job to do more and focus on what I am passionate about, now I find I don't have enough time to fit everything in that I'm mad silly about! Plus with more time to cook, bake, read, think, research, visualize, create, drink coffee etc. I am discovering more, more & more, oh my. The world is my oyster! This is fun.Which leads me to my newest discovery, most likely this is old news to everyone else, fresh brewed ice tea, LOVE! note: I am a serious coffee lover and haven't experienced the tea thing, so bear with me, please.It all started with my tired achy out of shape arms/back/body schlepping cases of bottled ice tea, yuck, to the Cowbell, I said to myself, really?Light bulb goes on in my tiny brain and I think brew tea then you only have to carry the concentrate. My bestie who lives in Brooklyn, mecca of trendy food & stuff, told me about a tea company, Porto Rico Importing Company on Bleeker St. since 1907. Ordered up some and nuff said. Next I've got peach and vanilla coming, refreshing.Tomorrow mint.        Mint Tea Leaves, so pretty        next I find this recipe for your ice tea & I have it growing in my yard!Honeysuckle Simple Syrup4 cups honeysuckle blossoms, lightly packedwatersugarPlace blossoms in a bowl, pour over just enough boiling water to cover them. Cover, and let sit on the counter over night, up to 24 hours.After steeping the flowers (they will look totally gross and brown, but smell amazing), strain the liquid into a large bowl, discarding the blossoms. Measure the liquid and place into a large saucepan. For each cup of water, use one cup of sugar. Bring sugar and water to a boil and simmer until the sugar is dissolved, 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool completely. The syrup should keep for up to a month in the fridge.                                                                           fabulous!Next peaches, my taste buds are madly in love with this fruit that is starting to come into its season. I bought my first case of peaches yesterday at the Leesburg Farmers Market. Today was the first step in a 2 day process of making peach jam. First you clean, peel, cut up & macerate the peaches with sugar and lemon. Cover and refrigerate for at least 24 hours then tomorrow when I get home I will start the cooking process. So worth the time and effort.I will use the jam for pop tart filling and all sorts of yummy things. I made more tomato jam and red onion jam to go on the roasted pork loin melt for Saturday's menu.Off the jam topic, made Oreo cookies for the weekend!!!!  P.S. How do you get people talking about hockey? Bring in Justin Bieber. Now, not only do you have the NHL and ESPN talking about hockey, but you have Yahoo! and E! Online and CBS Sports, and the Huffington Post.Outrage ensued when pictures were shown of Justin Bieber posing with the Stanley Cup in the Chicago Blackhawks locker room, and also that he was taking a picture of The Cup while standing on the Blackhawks logo in the locker room.I am going to go out on a limb here and say that there is not a correlation between avid hockey fans and Justin Bieber fans, even though, from what I've read, Bieber is, in fact, a fan of the sport, and Canadian to boot. Twitter went all Amanda Bynes about this event - people were demanding why Bieber was allowed anywhere near The Cup? Why was he allowed to perform in the same arena as The Cup champs? Who let him into the locker room?Here's the real question - what is the huge deal?We all know that Justin Bieber is one of the more polarizing celebrities that we have out there right now. Either you are one of his "Bieliebers" or you loath everything the guy does, artistically or otherwise. There are those, like myself, who are indifferent toward the Biebs, who do not quite understand the fervor and drama that follows this guy wherever he goes - this time into the locker room of the Chicago Blackhawks.Are fans upset because it was Bieber out of all celebrities, or are they upset that ANYONE got to touch The Cup. The Stanley Cup is one of the most venerated trophies in sports. This is due largely in part to the fact that it is the oldest trophy - beating the NBA and NFL, as well as its size, and what it contains, the engraved names of the winning players and teams (up to 55 per team). Also, The Cup is not replicated, liked others. There is only one... Because it's The Cup. Due to these reasons, as well as a few extras, that the trophy is regarding as the Holy Grail of the sport.Some people were upset that anyone in general got to touch it - let along Justin Bieber - one of the most talked about (good or bad) celebrities we have out there right now.I noticed on one comments board someone said "It's a sad day in sports journalism." And with this fan I would have to agree. I wish I could say I was an avid hockey fan - though I am not. I am getting into the sport, and have done more and more over the past few seasons. However, those that I know who follow the sport in the same way that I follow others complain constantly about the lack of quality coverage surrounding the sport.It is apparent that hockey does not garner the same attention the baseball, football, and basketball get. The reasons why can be dissected at a later date. Something like this brings this to our attention. When going to the homepage of a site like ESPN.com, one notices that the headlines to the right seldom contain any information about hockey. You have to delve into the NHL tab of the site - and even then, from what I gather, the quality isn't that great. Also, there is a full arsenal of commentators for the Big Three sports, and for hockey the only mainstay has been Barry Melrose. I am calling ESPN out here because there are the largest player, but you see where I am going with this.I feel like this story has gotten more attention that the Blackhawks actually winning The Cup. Therefore, I have to say, the most upsetting thing about this whole Bieb-tastic story is that it takes something like this to bring attention to a sport.Belieb that.
